Geneva, 16 January 2023. The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) prepared a “shadow report” about the Cambodian authorities’ numerous violations of economic, social, and cultural rights. FIDH submitted the report to the United Nations (UN) Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), ahead of Cambodia’s second periodic report under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, scheduled to take place on 21-22 February 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.
In its shadow report, FIDH documents the Cambodian authorities’ numerous violations of economic, social, and cultural rights, including:
Repression of land and environmental rights defenders.
Forced evictions and land grabbing, including in indigenous communities.
Union busting and arrests of labor rights activists.
Impact of harsh COVID-19 measures on the rights to an adequate standard of living, health, education, and social security.
