In the next month, the Douglas County Sustainability Office plans to host a number of focus groups to gather perspectives from residents about how they’re experiencing climate change. The feedback will help guide a county Climate Action Plan.
The Sustainability Office has announced a series of four focus groups between now and Jan. 26, 2023, following a similar meeting targeted at Indigenous community members earlier this month on the Haskell Indian Nations University campus. The first focus group is set for 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Lumberyard Arts Center in Baldwin City, 718 High St. It’s intended for those who work or reside in Baldwin City and unincorporated areas of the county, and the Sustainability Office is encouraging folks to RSVP online.
Three more focus groups will take place in the weeks to follow:
• A focus group targeted at Black, Indigenous and people of color is set for 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vermont St. Those interested can RSVPRSVP online.
• A focus group for those who work or reside in Lecompton and other unincorporated areas of the county is set for 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Lecompton Community Building, 333 Elmore St. Those interested can RSVP online.
• A focus group targeted at farmers is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. in Lawrence. Those interested can RSVP online.
