Dublin — 5 December 2025 — Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris spoke by phone on Friday with the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, with both sides discussing key issues shaping the Ireland–UK relationship ahead of a pivotal year for European and regional cooperation.
According to the Department of Finance, the conversation covered a broad agenda including the Ireland–UK trading relationship, Ireland’s preparations for its upcoming EU Presidency, and the wider state of EU–UK relations. The call comes at a time when both governments are navigating evolving economic ties and post‑Brexit policy dynamics.
The Tánaiste also briefed the Chancellor on his participation in the 44th British–Irish Council Summit, held earlier in the day in Wales, where leaders from across the islands discussed shared economic, social and political priorities.
Both Harris and Reeves agreed to remain in close contact and expressed interest in meeting in person in the near future, signalling continued engagement between Dublin and London as they manage cross‑border cooperation and regional stability.
