DUBLIN — Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Jim O’Callaghan TD, alongside Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly, has announced the launch of the second Garda recruitment campaign of 2025. The initiative opens on 18 September and will run for three weeks until 9 October.

The announcement, made at the National Ploughing Championships, follows a successful first campaign in February which attracted over 6,700 applications. Minister O’Callaghan described the new campaign as a key step in fulfilling the Government’s commitment to recruit 5,000 Gardaí over five years.

Recent figures show 423 new Gardaí have attested this year, with 571 trainees entering the Garda College in Templemore — the highest intake since 2019. A further intake is planned for November.

To support recruitment, the entry age has been extended to 50 and the weekly training allowance increased to €354. Minister O’Callaghan stated that additional measures will be explored to maintain momentum.
