Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy Shot Dead in Lviv

Andriy Parubiy, a prominent Ukrainian politician and former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, was shot and killed on August 30, 2025, in the western city of Lviv, according to Ukrainian authorities.

The shooting occurred around midday in Lviv’s Sykhivskyi district. Parubiy, 54, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the assailant fled and remains at large. A full-scale investigation has been launched involving the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, and regional authorities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the killing as a “horrific murder” and pledged all necessary resources to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Parubiy served as speaker of parliament from 2016 to 2019 and was a key figure in Ukraine’s 2013–2014 Revolution of Dignity. He was affiliated with the European Solidarity party and held various senior roles in Ukraine’s national security and legislative institutions.

Officials have not yet disclosed a motive for the attack.
