PM Modi to Visit China for SCO Summit at President Xi Jinping’s Invitation

New Delhi, 22 August 2025 — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1 to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed Friday.

The visit comes at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and marks Modi’s first trip to China in over seven years. On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several attending leaders.

India has been a full member of the SCO since 2017 and previously held the presidency of the Council of Heads of State during 2022–2023.
