Washington, D.C. — August 15, 2025
Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has stated that she would nominate President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize—if he successfully negotiates an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine without requiring Ukraine to cede territory to Moscow.
Speaking at a policy forum in Washington, Clinton emphasized that any peace agreement must uphold Ukraine’s territorial integrity and include a full Russian withdrawal from occupied regions.
“President Trump could really stand up to Putin to make it clear there must be a ceasefire, there will be no exchange of territory, and that over a period of time, Putin should be actually withdrawing from the territory he seized in order to demonstrate good faith efforts,” Clinton said.
She added that if Trump were the architect of such a resolution, she would personally nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
⚖️ Conditions for Recognition
Clinton’s remarks come amid heightened speculation over Trump’s upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where the two leaders are expected to discuss potential terms for ending the conflict. While Trump has expressed optimism about brokering a deal, he has not publicly committed to specific conditions regarding territorial concessions.
Clinton’s endorsement—conditional and focused on the preservation of Ukraine’s sovereignty—signals bipartisan recognition of the potential diplomatic significance of the summit, while also underscoring the importance of a principled resolution.
🌍 International Implications
The war in Ukraine, now entering its fourth year, has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties and widespread displacement. A negotiated settlement that includes full Russian withdrawal would mark a major turning point in the conflict and could reshape global security dynamics.
Clinton’s comments reflect growing international pressure for a resolution that respects Ukraine’s borders and avoids legitimizing territorial aggression.
