U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in Scotland for a five-day visit from July 25 to 29, combining personal engagements with diplomatic meetings. The trip includes stops at his golf resorts in Turnberry and Aberdeen, as well as a preview of a new course set to open in August, named in honor of his Scottish-born mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump.
The visit is classified as a “working trip” by the White House, with Trump scheduled to meet U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer to refine the U.S.–U.K. trade agreement signed in June 2025. The deal aims to reduce tariffs on automobiles, steel, and aluminum, while expanding market access for U.S. agricultural exports.
Security measures have been significantly ramped up, with up to 6,000 police officers deployed across Scotland amid planned protests in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Dumfries. The visit also includes a meeting with Scottish First Minister John Swinney, who has pledged to raise issues such as Gaza, Ukraine, and trade tariffs.
Trump is expected to return to the U.K. in September for a formal state visit hosted by King Charles III.
