A severe heatwave sweeping across Japan has resulted in the deaths of at least four people, prompting authorities to issue heatstroke alerts in multiple regions for the coming days.

Temperatures have soared above 35°C (95°F) in several parts of the country, with central and western Japan experiencing the most extreme conditions. Health officials have urged the public to stay indoors, remain hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.

Emergency services have responded to a surge in heat-related incidents, with hundreds hospitalized due to suspected heatstroke. The elderly and those with pre-existing conditions are particularly vulnerable.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that the heatwave is likely to persist through the weekend, advising continued caution as temperatures remain well above seasonal averages.
