Edward Walsh has officially assumed his role as the United States Ambassador to Ireland following a formal swearing-in ceremony conducted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the Oval Office.

A seasoned diplomat and public servant, Walsh brings extensive experience in international relations and transatlantic affairs to the post. His appointment was confirmed by the U.S. Senate earlier this year and reflects the Biden administration’s continued commitment to strengthening the longstanding diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the United States and Ireland.

During the ceremony, Secretary Rubio emphasized the strategic importance of the U.S.-Ireland relationship, citing shared democratic values, robust trade and investment ties, and close cooperation on global security and innovation.

Walsh is expected to focus on expanding bilateral collaboration in key areas such as technology, climate action, trade, biotech and education, while also engaging with the Irish-American community and supporting ongoing efforts related to the Good Friday Agreement and peace in Northern Ireland.

He will take up his post at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin later this month.
