Ryan Fitzpatrick says Zach Wilson’s career in New York is ‘done’

Former New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick blasted Zach Wilson, saying his time with the team is “done” following another miserable effort Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which saw him benched in favor of an undrafted former CFL signal-caller.

Discussing the Jets’ 19-3 loss on Amazon’s postgame show, Fitzpatrick said it’s clear the Jets don’t “believe in the kid.”

“I just think unfortunately his career here is done, because he has lost the locker room,” Fitzpatrick said. “He’s lost the guys. They have no confidence in him.”

Fitzpatrick also questioned Wilson’s commitment, saying he hasn’t given the Jets any reason to believe he’s the guy to lead the franchise.

“He hasn’t really done anything for them to believe in him,” Fitzpatrick said. “Just by the way that he plays, his passion for the game, and that’s what really bugs me and what bugged me about today.”

Fitzpatrick ended his rant by saying Wilson’s NFL career might not be over, but he’ll likely have to continue it “somewhere else” after being benched for the second time this season.

Wilson finished 9-of-18 for 92 yards, with zero touchdowns and an interception, averaging an abysmal 5.1 yards per reception on Thursday night. The former No. 2 overall pick started the second half but, after back-to-back three-and-outs, was replaced by backup Chris Streveler.
