Oklahoma Man Sentenced for Death and Injury of Two-Month-Old Twins

Michael David Gregory, a 30-year-old resident of Commerce, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for the death of a two-month-old infant and the assault of the child’s twin sister, both of whom suffered severe brain and eye injuries.

Case Details and Charges

Gregory pleaded guilty to:

  • Voluntary Manslaughter in Indian Country
  • Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Indian Country

According to court documents, Gregory was caring for the twin infants at an apartment he shared with his girlfriend. While she was at work, Gregory forcefully handled the newborns, causing traumatic injuries that led to the death of one child, identified as A.M.R.

Jurisdiction and Tribal Affiliation

Although Gregory is not a member of a federally recognized tribe, the crime occurred on the Quapaw Nation reservation, and the victims are considered Indian persons due to their eligibility for Choctaw Nation membership.

Sentencing and Next Steps

U.S. District Judge Sara E. Hill sentenced Gregory to 20 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered him to pay a $200 special monetary assessment. Gregory, who was previously released on bond, must report to a federal prison facility by July 22, 2025.

Investigation and Prosecution

The case was investigated by the Commerce Police Department, Quapaw Nation Marshal Service, and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Melody Nelson prosecuted the case.
