In response to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Gaza and the West Bank, the European Commission has allocated an additional €50 million in humanitarian funding, bringing total assistance in 2025 to €170 million. This will allow our humanitarian partners on the ground to boost aid supplies for civilians in need.
At the same time, taking into account the precarious situation in North-East Syria, the Commission has allocated an additional €20 million in humanitarian aid funding, bringing the total of humanitarian aid to Syria for 2025 to €202.5 million. This will support basic needs, such as food and health. An additional €13 million was also allocated to Lebanon to support of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees and Lebanese, including in conflict-affected areas.
Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said: ‘We’re stepping up our support for our partners to help meet the urgent needs and ease the suffering of the Palestinians. But no aid can reach those who need it without safe, unimpeded access for humanitarian workers. That must be guaranteed. In Syria, we’re boosting funding for the north-east, where people urgently need healthcare and protection, and we are doing so with neutrality and without any discrimination. And in Lebanon, as families try to cope under a fragile ceasefire, we’re scaling up help with basics like food and medical care — especially for vulnerable Syrian refugees and Lebanese communities.’
