The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and Poland’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to officially launch the EIT Regional Innovation Booster (EIT RIB) pilot programme in Poland in 2025. This milestone marks a strategic push to support innovation across less-developed regions in the European Union.
What Is the EIT RIB?
The EIT Regional Innovation Booster is a new flagship initiative from the EIT, designed to:
- Strengthen emerging innovation ecosystems
- Support high-potential startups and scaleups in countries classed as “modest” or “moderate” innovators by the European Innovation Scoreboard
- Improve access to international markets and investment
- Reduce regional innovation gaps across the EU
The programme is being developed in partnership with national authorities and is intended to simplify and integrate Europe’s fragmented innovation support landscape.
Why Poland?
Poland has been selected to host the pilot phase in 2025, ahead of a broader pilot expansion in at least four countries by 2026. A full EU-wide rollout is expected by 2029. The choice of Poland reflects its growing innovation potential and the government’s commitment to supporting R&D-led economic development.
Strategic Importance
This cooperation aligns with the EU’s broader objectives under the New European Innovation Agenda, which aims to:
- Boost innovation in all corners of Europe
- Ensure balanced growth among member states
- Drive resilience and competitiveness through innovation
