UCD Alumni, Patrick Tiernan Appointed as CEO of Lloyd’s

Patrick Tiernan, a UCD Business and Law graduate, has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Lloyd’s, the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace. His appointment marks a significant leadership transition at the historic institution, following the departure of John Neal, who served as CEO since 2018.

A Proven Leader in the Insurance Sector

Tiernan, who previously held the role of Chief of Markets at Lloyd’s since 2021, has nearly three decades of experience in the insurance industry. His career includes senior positions at Aviva, StarStone Insurance, and Zurich, where he played a pivotal role in underwriting, market oversight, and global regulatory affairs.

Strategic Vision for Lloyd’s Future

As CEO, Tiernan is expected to focus on strengthening underwriting discipline, enhancing market efficiency, and driving innovation through initiatives like Lloyd’s Lab and Lloyd’s Academy. His leadership comes at a time of economic volatility, geopolitical uncertainty, and climate-related risks, making his expertise crucial for navigating the evolving landscape of global insurance.

Sir Charles Roxburgh, Chair of Lloyd’s, praised Tiernan’s commercial acumen and industry expertise, stating that his appointment will ensure consistent and disciplined performance for the marketplace.

A New Chapter for Lloyd’s

Tiernan will officially assume his role on June 1, 2025, pending regulatory approval from the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. His tenure is expected to shape Lloyd’s strategic direction, reinforcing its position as a global leader in risk management and insurance innovation.
