In his 2025 Easter message, King Charles reflected on the dual aspects of human nature, acknowledging both the capacity for cruelty and the potential for kindness. He described this as the “paradox of human life,” highlighting the contrast between the suffering seen in conflict zones and the selfless acts of humanitarian workers who risk their lives to aid others.
The King emphasized the enduring importance of three virtues—faith, hope, and love—citing a passage from the New Testament that underscores love as the greatest of these. He also acknowledged the efforts of organizations like International Health Partners, ShelterBox, Islamic Relief Worldwide, and Christian Aid, which were honored at a recent Buckingham Palace reception for their significant anniversaries.
Later that day, King Charles attended the Royal Maundy Service at Durham Cathedral, a centuries-old tradition where the monarch distributes Maundy money to individuals recognized for their Christian service. This year, 76 men and 76 women received the symbolic coins, corresponding to the King’s age. The ceremony marked his return to the tradition after missing it the previous year due to cancer treatment, during which Queen Camilla performed the duty in his place.
Through his message and actions, King Charles called for greater kindness and friendship, especially in times of need, and reaffirmed the values of love and compassion as guiding principles for a better world.
