The EU announced today emergency humanitarian funding of €1.2 million for Uganda, to support the country in its response to the current Sudan (Ebola) virus outbreak.
With this funding, our humanitarian partner the World Health Organisation (WHO) will be able to address critical needs related to coordination, surveillance, infection prevention and control case management, operational support, and logistics.
Since the outbreak was declared on 30 January 2025, and as of 5 March 2025, a total of 14 cases (including 12 confirmed cases and 2 probable cases) including 4 deaths (2 confirmed and 2 probable) have been reported. According to the current assessment, 7 districts in Uganda, including the Capital Kampala, are at very high risk, and 11 others are at high risk.
The new funding is in addition to €200,000 allocated in February 2025 to the Uganda Red Cross Society, to support their response to the Sudan (Ebola) virus outbreak. Also, via the Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism, the EU has deployed experts from Member States to Uganda, to strengthen response efforts.
