Celebrating HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh: A Legacy of Service and Dedication

Entertainment

Today, we celebrate the birthday of HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, born on March 10, 1964, at Buckingham Palace. The third son and fourth child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward has carved out a meaningful role within the British royal family.

Married to Sophie Rhys-Jones since 1999, Prince Edward and the Duchess of Edinburgh have two children, Lady Louise Windsor (born November 8, 2003) and James, Viscount Severn (born December 17, 2007). As a full-time working royal, Prince Edward plays a key part in supporting King Charles III, attending public engagements, and taking on significant responsibilities.

Notably, Prince Edward succeeded his late father, Prince Philip, as president of the Commonwealth Games Federation, a role he has filled since 2017. He also oversees the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, continuing his father’s legacy in empowering young people. Additionally, the Duke has represented the royal family at various Commonwealth Games, opening the events in New Zealand (1990) and Malaysia (1998).

An interesting tidbit: His initials – Edward Antony Richard Louis – spell “EARL,” the title he held before marrying Sophie Rhys-Jones, who became the Countess of Wessex.

As Prince Edward marks another year, his commitment to service, public duties, and the charitable causes he champions continue to define his royal legacy.
