US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron met on Monday and agreed that the responsibility for securing peace in Ukraine should be shared between the US and Europe. In a joint statement following their meeting at the White House, Trump expressed satisfaction that Macron aligned with his stance on key issues, particularly the need to end Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
Trump emphasized that Europe must take a central role in securing Ukraine’s long-term security, stating, “Europe must take that central role… and that’s not a very big step.” He stressed that the upcoming weeks would be critical for peace negotiations.
Macron, acknowledging Europe’s security responsibilities, stated, “We know what we need to do as Europeans,” and highlighted that Europe must contribute more to defense and security, given the threats in the region.
Both leaders highlighted the importance of a collaborative approach, with Europe playing a more prominent role in ensuring stability and security within its borders.
