Taoiseach Micheál Martin spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of a summit next week marking the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The call focused on strengthening ties between Ireland and Ukraine, as well as discussing the path to peace and Ukraine’s EU accession.
Following the conversation, Martin reiterated Ireland’s unwavering support for Ukraine, both politically and financially. “I had a warm engagement with President Zelenskyy, where I reaffirmed Ireland’s steadfast support for Ukraine and its people,” said Martin. The leaders discussed ways to collaborate with the EU to secure a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine.
Martin also expressed Ireland’s continued commitment to Ukraine’s EU membership, stressing the importance of accelerating the process. He concluded by confirming Ireland’s ongoing financial support for Ukraine’s efforts amidst the ongoing conflict.
Looking ahead, Martin is set to join an online summit hosted by President Zelenskyy next week, where global leaders will further discuss Ukraine’s future and the evolving situation.
