Virgin Atlantic has integrated Apple’s Share Item Location feature into its baggage handling process, allowing passengers to assist in the quick recovery of their lost or delayed luggage. This innovation leverages Apple’s AirTag and Find My network to streamline the baggage tracing process, enhancing both efficiency and customer experience.
How It Works:
Passengers with an AirTag or compatible Find My network accessory can now share the location of their luggage directly with Virgin Atlantic’s customer service teams. The process begins by generating a Share Item Location link through the Find My app. Once a bag goes missing and a report is filed, passengers can send this link to the airline’s baggage tracing team, enabling them to track the bag in real-time.
The system is designed for privacy and security, with location sharing automatically ending once the bag is returned to the passenger. It can also be manually stopped at any time and expires after seven days.
A Commitment to Customer Peace of Mind:
Corneel Koster, Virgin Atlantic’s Chief Customer and Operating Officer, expressed the airline’s commitment to improving the customer experience, stating: “Many passengers already use AirTags to keep tabs on their luggage. In cases of delays or operational issues, this new feature ensures we have real-time updates to reunite passengers with their bags faster.”
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing luggage management and ensuring passengers’ peace of mind during air travel, especially when operational disruptions arise.
