More Hostages Released by Hamas: Emotional Reunion for Arbel Yehoud and Her Family

Arbel Yehoud, an Israeli citizen, was among eight hostages recently released by Hamas after more than 15 months in captivity. Yehoud, 29, was freed in a chaotic but successful handover in Gaza, along with her fellow captives, including the German-Israeli Gadi Moses, 80, and five Thai nationals. Yehoud’s family, who had endured months of uncertainty, expressed deep emotions upon her return, highlighting the pain and relief of her long-awaited reunion.

Arbel Yehoud was abducted by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, terror attack, which left over 1,200 Israelis dead and led to the kidnapping of around 250 others. Yehoud’s family had to wait for months before they could finally hold her again. In their statement, they expressed gratitude to all those involved in her release and emphasized their ongoing support for families still awaiting the return of their loved ones.

The release of Yehoud and others came amid a temporary ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which allowed for the return of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. During the first phase of this agreement, 33 hostages were set to be released. So far, seven women have been freed, including Yehoud.

Despite the relief, Yehoud’s family made it clear that their mission is far from complete. Yehoud’s partner, Ariel Cunio, remains in captivity, as do other hostages, including his brother and several others from the Nir Oz kibbutz, where Yehoud was abducted.

The family, particularly Yehoud’s father Yechti, who met with both Israeli and German officials during the negotiations, remains committed to the fight for the safe return of all hostages. Their efforts reflect the broader emotional and political stakes involved in hostage negotiations and the enduring pain of families impacted by the ongoing conflict.

As the Yehoud family prepares for the long healing process, they continue to advocate for the release of all hostages, calling for immediate action to bring their loved ones home.
