Donald Trump is currently in the process of being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, marking the start of his second term. Due to dangerously cold temperatures in Washington, D.C., the ceremony, traditionally held on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, is taking place indoors in the Capitol Rotunda. This is expected to be the coldest Inauguration Day since 1985.
Ongoing Inaugural Events
The day began with a morning worship service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, a tradition that has been observed since Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 1933 inauguration. Present at the service were President-elect Donald Trump, First Lady-to-be Melania Trump, Vice President-elect JD Vance, and his wife Usha, as well as notable tech executives including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Following the service, Trump and Vance met with outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House for a brief private meeting.
Swearing-in and Address
The swearing-in ceremony for Vice President-elect JD Vance has already taken place, and Trump is expected to take the oath of office shortly, with Chief Justice John Roberts administering the oath. As part of the ongoing proceedings, Trump is preparing to deliver his inaugural address, where he is expected to call for a “revolution of common sense” and lay out his priorities for the coming term, including a focus on immigration and national unity.
Executive Actions and Pardons
Once Trump is sworn in, he is expected to sign 10 executive orders, with immigration reform at the forefront of his agenda. Sources also suggest that Trump will announce pardons for some individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot as part of his first actions in office.
Upcoming Celebrations
After the swearing-in ceremony, Trump will participate in a signing room ceremony where he will make key nominations and sign his first executive orders. Later in the day, the traditional inaugural luncheon will take place, with invited guests including congressional leaders and dignitaries. The festivities will continue with the “pass in review” ceremony and culminate in celebratory events at Capital One Arena and the inaugural balls.
With the swearing-in still unfolding, this historic day is set to continue with a series of events marking the beginning of a new presidential term.
