Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, will visit Poland tomorrow and Saturday on 10-11 January. In particular, she will meet with the Minister of the Interior, Tomasz Siemoniak, and the Minister of Equality, Katarzyna Kotula, to discuss, inter alia, the future EU preparedness strategy and the roadmap on women’s rights.
During her visit, Commissioner Lahbib will also visit the warehouse hosting strategic reserves of rescEU response capacities, including generators.
Supplies from this rescEU warehouse have contributed to over 153,000 tonnes of assistance sent to Ukraine since February 2022 through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Fully funded by the EU, rescEU aims to protect citizens from disasters and manage emerging risks by strengthening European preparedness and crisis response capacity in Europe.
In addition, the Commissioner will visit the EU hub for medical evacuations (Medevac) in Rzeszów. The hub is a safe space for patients arriving from Ukraine before continuing their journey to hospitals in another European country. Since the launch of Medevac from Ukraine, almost 4,000 patients have been transferred to European hospitals.
