Civil society leaders gathered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 26, 2025, for an Advocacy Workshop focused on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) and the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG). The event, organized by Integrated Design (INDÉ) in collaboration with the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA), called for mobilizing $300 billion annually by 2035 to support global climate adaptation initiatives.
A central objective of the workshop was to amplify the voices of vulnerable communities, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, in shaping global climate policies. As the world faces growing climate vulnerabilities, participants stressed the need to incorporate regional perspectives into both the NCQG and the GGA.
The workshop revolved around identifying key sectors aligned with the UAE’s FGCR framework. Attendees worked in thematic teams to address climate-related vulnerabilities and explore adaptation strategies tailored to their regions. Key discussions highlighted barriers such as financial limitations, institutional constraints, and operational challenges, as well as potential solutions to overcome these obstacles.
By fostering collaboration, the workshop aimed to strengthen the regional approach to climate resilience. Attendees left equipped with new tools, knowledge, and partnerships to enhance local adaptation strategies, contributing to the broader global climate resilience effort.
This marks a critical milestone in global climate adaptation, with stakeholders focused on ensuring vulnerable communities are well-represented in international climate decision-making.
