On July 16, 2025, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, officially launched Global Talent Ireland, a strategic initiative aimed at recruiting top-tier international researchers to Irish higher education institutions and public research bodies.
Managed by Research Ireland, the programme is designed to strengthen Ireland’s position as a European hub for research excellence, innovation, and economic impact. It targets both mid-career rising stars and established research leaders, offering comprehensive support to relocate and establish globally competitive research teams in Ireland.
🎯 Programme Highlights
- Two-stage application process:
Begins with an Expression of Interest (EoI) due by August 28, 2025, followed by a full proposal deadline in October 2025. - Funding support:
Covers relocation costs and infrastructure for research teams hosted by eligible Irish institutions. - Rigorous selection:
Includes peer review and interviews to ensure alignment with national strategic priorities and research excellence. - Disciplinary scope:
Open to all fields within Research Ireland’s remit, with emphasis on strategic areas such as life sciences, digital technologies, sustainability, and semiconductors.
Minister Lawless underscored the urgency of engagement, encouraging researchers to connect with Irish institutions promptly:
