France’s largest air traffic controller union, SNCTA, has confirmed a nationwide strike scheduled for September 18–19, 2025, following a breakdown in negotiations with the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC).

The union, which represents around 60% of controllers, cited unresolved grievances over pay and management practices. It is demanding salary adjustments to reflect 2024 inflation and annual consultations on economic impacts. In a statement, SNCTA criticized the sector’s governance, describing it as marked by “mistrust, punitive practices, and degrading managerial methods.”

The announcement raises concerns across Europe’s aviation sector, especially after a July 2025 strike caused widespread disruption. According to Eurocontrol, that action led to an average of 3,713 flight delays and 1,422 cancellations daily. Ryanair, easyJet, and Air France were among the most affected carriers, with Volotea experiencing delays on 34% of its flights.

Ryanair’s CEO has condemned the strikes, referring to them as “recreational,” while airlines brace for further disruption.
