Prague, 4 July 2025 – A major power outage struck parts of Prague and several regions across the Czech Republic on Friday, halting metro services, tram operations, and regional train traffic. The cause of the disruption remains under investigation, though officials have ruled out a cyberattack.

🚇 Transport Disruptions
The outage began around noon, rendering Prague’s entire metro network temporarily inoperative. Lines A and C resumed service within 15 minutes, while Line B was restored after 30 minutes. Tram services on the right bank of the Vltava River were suspended, while those on the left bank continued operating. Several regional trains were also affected.

✈️ Airport and Emergency Services
Václav Havel Airport remained unaffected. Czech hospitals swiftly activated emergency power systems, ensuring uninterrupted patient care. Health Minister Vlastimil Valek reassured the public that contingency protocols were in place and functioning effectively.

📍 Wider Regional Impact
Power outages were reported in the Ústí, Liberec, and Hradec Králové regions. The national grid operator ČEPS confirmed widespread disruptions and initiated restoration efforts. Prime Minister Petr Fiala acknowledged the incident as “extraordinary” and confirmed that authorities are actively investigating the cause.

🌡️ Heatwave Concerns
The outage coincides with a heatwave warning issued by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, forecasting temperatures up to 37°C. Officials have cautioned against fire risks and urged public vigilance.
