Kern County, California — August 2025
Arevon Energy has officially commissioned its landmark Eland Solar-plus-Storage Project, a $2 billion clean energy infrastructure spanning two phases in California’s Mojave Desert. The facility is now fully operational, delivering 758 MW of solar capacity and 300 MW / 1,200 MWh of battery storage, making it one of the largest integrated solar-storage projects in the United States.
⚡ Powering Los Angeles with Clean Energy
- Annual Output: Enough to power 266,000 homes
- Grid Contribution: Meets 7% of Los Angeles’ electricity demand
- Renewable Share Boost: Raises LA’s clean energy mix to 60%, advancing California’s goal of 100% clean electricity by 2035
Mayor Karen Bass hailed the project as a “major milestone” in the city’s transition to carbon-free energy:
“This is LA’s clean energy future. Eland sets the pace for what a modern utility should look like.”
🔋 Technical Specifications
- Solar Panels: 1.36 million units
- Battery Technology: 172 containerized lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries
- Manufacturing: Batteries produced locally in Lathrop, California
- Safety Record: No overheating or fire incidents since commercial use began in 2019
The batteries are designed for rapid discharge during peak demand, helping mitigate blackouts and stabilize the grid during extreme weather events.
🏗️ Economic & Community Impact
- Construction Jobs: Over 1,000 created during buildout
- Local Revenue: Project will generate $36 million in lifetime tax payments for schools, infrastructure, and public services
- Public-Private Partnership: Developed under long-term agreements with the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA), supplying energy to LADWP and Glendale Water and Power
Arevon CEO Kevin Smith emphasized the collaborative effort:
“Eland is the largest project in our portfolio. It delivers reliable, affordable clean energy at scale and reflects our leadership in advancing California’s renewables-forward future.”
🌍 Strategic Significance
The Eland complex supports California’s aggressive climate targets:
Metric | Value |
---|---|
State Renewable Share (2025) | 57% |
Target for 100% Clean Energy | By 2035 |
Arevon’s CA Portfolio | 3.7 GW in operation |
National Portfolio | 5.3 GW across 17 states |
