Title: Discover the restaurants, cafes, Bars and Parks in Vienna, Austria

Vienna is an awesome city to explore over a weekend with its incredible Austrian cuisine and cafe culture as well as its unique Architecture, its place you will easily fall in love with and will want to visit multiple times.

Vienna is also easy to get to from London with many airlines to choose from, making Vienna a perfect city for a weekend escape.

Here are a few places and recommendations from my last trip to Vienna.

Stay at St Christopher’s Inn Hostel, Vienna

New to the hostel scene in Vienna is St Christopher’s Inn Hostel which has just opened up a new location within close walking distance to Keplerplatz metro station and Vienna central station (Wien HBF).

Here you will find affordable dorm rooms with an awesome social hostel vibe that can be found in Belushi’s Bar every night.

As the location just opened up in 2022 you will find all the facilities modern and newly renovated making this a great place to stay.

Also worth looking into is the Private double bed ensuite rooms, if you happen to travel as a couple or with a friend, this could be an affordable option if you prefer the private room comforts with the hostel vibe and can split the costs. Rates are much more affordable compared to other hotels in Vienna.

Stay at the new St Christopher’s Inn Hostel Vienna and Remember to book your room directly for the best rates and breakfast included during your stay.

Spend an evening at the Long Hall Bar, Vienna

The Long Hall Bar in Vienna is an Irish-themed pub with a fantastic beer garden terrace for you to enjoy a pint or two.

They also serve draft beer here fresh from the beer tanks and would be my top recommended choice.

If you’re feeling peckish then you should go for the pub classic which is fish and chips served with peas and tartar sauce which is a popular choice here and done rather well.

Great location in Vienna for a few beers and a slap-up pub meal on the garden terrace.

Go for a walk around Austria and discover the incredible Architecture

One thing that I love most about Vienna, Austria is how stunning the local Architecture is.

I’m mostly walking around Vienna with my head tilted upwards taking it all.

Vienna is a great city to explore on foot and to take in some of the key sights which happen to be the buildings themselves.

Take a stroll and discover the Museums Quartier, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, The Hofburg Palace, Vienna State Opera house, Rathaus and the Lower Belvedere.

All the buildings alone form an incredible part of Vienna’s Architecture worth exploring.

Make the most out of public transport in Vienna

The easiest way to get around Vienna is by using the fantastic public transport system.

You can get a 24-hour pass for a well-priced €8.00 which allows you to use the trams, buses and metro system to get around town.

Just make sure that you stamp your ticket before travelling to ensure it’s validated for your onwards journey otherwise you could land yourself with a hefty fine.

Enjoy a relaxing picnic in Augarten

The Augarten is a public park situated in the Leopoldstadt, the second district of Vienna, Austria and contains the city’s oldest Baroque park.

A perfect spot for enjoying a picnic and be sure to bring a selection of beers along with you to relax in the park and make the most out of the good weather if you get lucky.

It’s a great spot to meet locals who might be playing some lawn games so you can always ask nicely if you can join in on the fun and take part too.

Head to Cafe Central for a traditional Vienna style coffee experience

A trip to Vienna wouldn’t be complete without first trying a Vienna coffee house experience.

Cafe Central is the most popular choice amongst visitors and for good reasons too.

The café was established in 1876 and has been serving coffee to Viennese intellectuals ever since.

It briefly had a closure to be restored into its current design which has created a magical setting.

I would recommend going for the Vienna-style coffee, Wiener Melange, which is an espresso-based coffee topped with hot foamed milk.

In the national dessert of Austria, strudel can be ordered here with a hearty scoop of whipped cream which goes perfectly with a coffee.

Here you will find an old-school magazine and newspaper rack, so feel free to browse through the selection as the piano player performs a few popular tunes.

The most traditional cake you can try in Vienna would be the Sachertorte.

And the most traditional place to order one would be the Café Sacher inside hotel Sacher.

They even have a chocolate stamp of approval on the top stating the claim that they hold the original recipe

Figlmuller, the home of the schnitzel

If you’re looking for a place in Vienna, Austria to try a local schnitzel, look no further than the one and only Figlmuller. The home of the schnitzel and hands down the best Shnitzel in town.

The schnitzel is so big, that it doesn’t even fit onto the plate that it’s served on. It might even find it overflowing off the plate and leaning over the table, this is the signature serving of the Figlmuller schnitzel.

Traditionally served with a side of the special house potato salad which I found was rather rich and sweet and goes extremely well paired with the schnitzel.

Enjoy! and good luck trying to finish this one! You might have to walk it off once you’ve finished.
