D’Angelo Russell played after car accident on way to game

Timberwolves point guard D’Angelo Russell was involved in a car accident on the snowy roads of Minnesota on the way to the team’s game Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Despite the potentially scary scene, he still managed to not only play, but start in the contest.

Russell went on to finish the T-Wolves win with nine points on 1-for-6 shooting, to go with seven assists and three rebounds. Russell has been one of the more durable Minnesota players this season, ranking tied for second on the team with his 36 games played and only missing three contests thus far.

“DLo” leads the team in assists per game (6.5), is tied for second in steals (1.1) and three-pointers made per contest (2.3) and is third in both scoring (16.6 points per game) and minutes (32.6). The former No. 2 overall pick of the Los Angeles Lakers recently made headlines when he unfollowed the team on Instagram.

Notably, Russell is in the final year of his four-year contract that pays him over $31 million this season. Hopefully for Timberwolves fans’ sake, the eye-catching social media move was either a misunderstanding or can be resolved soon.

Expectations were high coming into the campaign following the offseason trade for Rudy Gobert — who starts along with star big man Karl-Anthony Towns, 2020 first overall pick Anthony Edwards and Russell — but “KAT” hasn’t played since late November due to a calf injury. It looks like the Wolves lucked out with their point guard avoiding an injury from the car crash, but they’re still having a very underwhelming season at 18-21 and in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.
